Expertise on unmanned and manned space business
Communication satellites can alleviate the digital divide and enable remote medicine and distance education.
Navigation satellites such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites enable precise position measurements. Earth observation satellites are used for various applications including monitoring of climate changes, disasters and environmental pollution and crop growth.
Operations of the Japanese Experiment Module, which is called “Kibo” and part of the International Space Station, have begun. Kibo is “the first Japanese facility in space” that is available to industry and ordinary citizens.
There are many different opinions about the future of manned lunar and planetary exploration. In the wake of successful launches of the HTV and the H-II B, SBDD continues developing various proposals to promote human space activities.
Services
- Technology Development for Satellite Utilization
- In addition to communication technologies including those to retransmit terrestrial digital television broadcasting signals, SBDD has developed a system for farmers to directly monitor crop growth. SBDD keeps seeking technologies that promote safe, secure and prosperous living environments.
- ISS/JEM Utilization
- The International Space Station offers various applications including earth sciences, earth observations, space medicine, education and development of manned space technologies. SBDD continues developing business proposals to use the ISS/JEM for various applications.
- Future Manned Space Activities
- Though Japanese astronauts exist, Japan doesn’t have its own means to transport human between ground and space. In the wake of successful launches of the HTV and the H-IIB, SBDD continues developing various proposals to promote manned space activities.
