Professionals in Transporting Payloads into Space

Following a successful demonstration flight in September 2009, the H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV) is slated for launch once or twice a year to the International Space Station (ISS) starting in 2010. SSD supports JAXA in launch and operations of the HTV. Specifically, SSD is tasked with cargo integration, preparation for operations. SSD has developed soft bags to facilitate safe transfer of cargos from ground to the ISS. The soft bags are usable on the HTV and other space vehicles. Further, SSD has developed application software that optimizes cargo layout on HTV.

SSD used the software for the demonstration and the subsequent flights. In addition to HTV support services, SSD offers other various services related to operations/utilization including supports in space vehicle development. Specifically, SSD started applying and maintaining the JAXA design standards in 2011 and keeps expanding its business areas.

Services

HTV Cargo Integration
Cargo integration is a process of evaluating cargo destined for the HTV and designing an optimal layout of cargos on the HTV.
SSD supports delivery and loading of cargos at the Tanegashima Space Center.
Preparation for HTV Operations
(including preparation of operation manuals)
Prior to HTV operations, SSD creates operating manuals and procedures, among other operation related documents. SSD also participates in training.
HTV Mission Control
SSD joins the HTV Flight Control Team (FCT) to monitor and control the HTV operations in communication with the “Kibo” FCT and the NASA FCT for approximately one month of the HTV mission period that encompasses launch, docking to the ISS, cargo transfer, departure from the ISS and re-entry.
