Comprehensive Evaluation of Safety and Reliability

Trivial incidents on the earth might lead to life-threatening accidents if occurred in space. SPAD is responsible for evaluating and reviewing safety of hardware/software, fixtures, materials and associated operations to prevent on-orbit accidents from occurring in consideration of all conceivable hazards such as fire, decompression and atmospheric contamination inside the International Space Station. Since the foundation of JAMSS, SPAD has been accumulating and improving knowledge and know-hows to assure safety and reliability associated with space activities in corporation with NASA and JAXA. SPAD maintains and implements the world’s highest standards for safety and reliability assurance and keeps seeking other applications of this capability and experience such as medical equipment, nuclear power plants and transportation systems. In addition, SPAD provides safety assurance education.

Services

Analysis and Evaluation of Safety: SPAD thoroughly reviews safety of flight hardware, software and operations by flight and ground crew using the NASA and JAXA space standards. Further, SPAD examines safety analysis results using comprehensive analytical methods to reduce residual hazards.
Analysis and Evaluation of Reliability and Maintainability: SPAD evaluates durability of hardware, materials and parts in harsh space environments including crew habitat areas, and impacts due to failures (reliability), and develops a maintenance plan that minimizes crew-time (maintainability) in order to improve the availability of the entire system.
Evaluation of Product Quality: SPAD evaluates quality of hardware and software to ensure the function and performance. In addition, SPAD reviews quality data associated with manufacturing and testing processes. To prevent reoccurrence of the same defects, SPAD shares the defect information with all related parties.
Software Independent Verification and Validation: With sophisticated verification technologies, SPAD verifies and validates software designs independently from the software developers. Software Independent verification and Validation services are effective to enhance reliability and safety of software for use in various cutting-edge hardware such as space vehicles.
