IV&V engineer training course
IV&V is essential for securing safety
and improving reliability of
automatic systems.
While it is possible to examine whether the functions of an automatic system operate
according to the system's requirement through tests after its development, tests cannot
examine whether there are flaws in the functional requirements of the software themselves.
Moreover, if a malfunction due to the flaw in the software functional requirements is
discovered during a test, its repair cost is considered to be 100 times more than cost of
fixing flaws discovered during the design stage. For making an automatic system safer, it is
effective to use the objective perspective of a third party separate from the development
organization to logically evaluate or examine it.
At JAMSS, we offer two courses for training IV&V engineer using the materials from JAXA,
known as the “IV&V engineer training course”.
We solve the following issues.
-
Integrate IV&V into your company's development.
-
Train personnel with skills for examining the safety of automatic systems.
-
Prove the reliability and safety of automatic systems.
-
Flow The reasons why IV&V is drawing attentions.
In recent years, diverse types of systems are being automated, and the scale of automatic systems is becoming large. These automatic systems that are becoming larger and more complex are becoming essential foundation for systems that require a high level of safety, such as aviation, space, automobile, railways, nuclear power, and healthcare. Therefore, solid safety and reliability that can respond to long-term environmental change, accidents, and threats are highly demanded.
Thus, malfunctioning of software can cause serious hazards.
It is said that the explosion of the European rocket “Ariane 5”, which resulted in 8 billion dollar damage, was caused by a software malfunction.
Malfunction of software not only causes financial damage but also could lead to harm on human lives. What is IV&V?
Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) is an evaluation work on development deliverables (specification, source codes) for the purpose of improving reliability and ensuring safety of software. As it is conducted by a third party that is technically, organizationally, and financially independent from the development organization, it is also known as “independent examination and validity verification”.
