The ultimate safety technologies that open up the future

"Safety and Secure" assured from space

The ultimate safety technology that
supports the operation of "Kibo"

Through the operation and utilization of “Kibo” and “Kounotori”,
JAMSS has been developing manned space technology
whose highest priority is the safety of astronauts.
We keep our eyes on Earth 24 hours using the ultimate safety
and operation technologies that are required in space environment.

Safely conducting manned space activities
that does not allow any mistakes.

Conducting manned space activities at “Kibo” was the purpose of establishing our company, and this work involves the largest number of our staff today. Our flight controllers constantly monitor, control, and analyze the state of “Kibo” at the flight control room located in the Tsukuba Space Center of JAXA, and they conduct real-time international coordination through the hotline with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the astronauts. Moreover, we are also responsible for training of the control staff, conducting space experiment, and on-board support of astronauts.

In addition to specialized knowledge, calm judgment, advanced English knowledge, and smooth communication skill are required of a flight controller. Therefore, we train our controllers for nearly two years through our unique training curriculum before certifying them as controllers.

Support successful mission of astronauts

We support Japanese astronauts in smooth success of their missions when they are staying for a long term at the International Space Station through coordination with national and international relevant parties. Moreover, JAMSS plays an important role in maintaining the health of astronauts who are exposed to harsh conditions of space, including microgravity, closed and isolated environment, and cosmic radiation.

At 400 km above ground, the location of the ISS is remote. Moreover, its facilities and systems are becoming more advanced and complex day by day, and the fact that astronauts are staying there demands considerations for human safety. Therefore, its operation is not easy, and training plays an extremely important role.

Moon and Mars
exploration from the ISS

As an important challenge to expand the activity area of humanity and develop new frontiers, JAMSS is involved in space exploration.
The ISS has been operated at the frontline of space exploration as the platform for manned space activities. JAMSS is engaging in projects to contribute to the development of next space exploration platforms for manned space activities, such as Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) and Lunar Orbital Platform (Gateway).
