Japan Manned Space Systems Corporation (JAMSS) is pleased to announce its comprehensive support for the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in astronaut candidate selection from 2022 to 2023, as well as its continued support for two JAXA astronaut candidates undergoing basic training from April 2023 to October 2024.
 
What is Basic Training?
Basic training is designed to equip astronaut candidates with essential scientific, technical, and operational knowledge, including critical skills related to the International Space Station (ISS). Learn more here.

Training Areas Supported by JAMSS
In collaboration with prominent organizations, JAMSS provided various specialized training modules for the astronaut candidates, including:
 
- Engineering Principles (outsourced to the University Space Engineering Consortium and Nihon University)
- Photography Techniques (outsourced to Nikon Imaging Japan Inc.)
- Swimming Techniques (outsourced to University of Tsukuba)
- Space Observation (outsourced to the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan)
- Earth Observation (outsourced to the Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan)
- Fundamental Robotics (coordinated with NASA)
- Zero-Gravity Simulation (coordinated with ESA)
- ISS Systems Training
- Physical Fitness Training, among others.
Drawing on its experience as the operational controller and training instructor for the Japanese Experiment Module on the ISS, also known as "Kibo", JAMSS curated and implemented a comprehensive training program for the candidates, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of human spaceflight.
