JAMSS contracted a technical demonstration for QOL improvement on Axiom Space's Ax-1 mission to ISS
Japan Manned Space Systems (JAMSS) agreed to perform technical demonstration of their photocatalyst device on Axiom Spacebs Axiom Mission 1 (Ax-1), the first-ever private astronaut mission to the International Space Station. JAMSS is the first Japanese company to contract for a research payload on Ax-1.
The number of people in orbit is increasing with the rise of private spaceflight and it is expected that a portable air purification device improves Quality of Life (QOL) on stays in the space station. JAMSS has been developing the photocatalyst device in cooperation with Tokyo University of Science and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology who are the world leaders of this technology. Using the unique opportunity offered by Ax-1, technical demonstration of the JAMSS device will be conducted to verify the performance with an improved photocatalyst filter. The device will be launched with Ax-1, installed by Ax-1 crew and returned by the subsequent vehicle.
Axiom Space is building the worldbs first private space station to succeed the International Space Station. JAMSS signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Axiom Space in 2017. This technical demonstration in Ax-1 is the first step to expand collaboration utilizing Axiombs private space station.
